New Direct Tax Code: Pay less in taxes from April 2011

New Delhi: A windfall for taxpayers from the next financial year. You will in fact have to pay less Direct taxes in every slab of income. This comes with the Cabinet clearing the Direct tax code which will be introduced in Rajya Sabha, and referred it to a select committee, during the monsoon session.

It has been referred to the Select Committee, and will be introduced in Rajya Sabha on Monday. The new provisions under the Direct Tax Code are as follows:

* Tax for income between Rs. 2 lakh - Rs. 5 lakh: 10%
* Tax for income between Rs. 5 lakh - Rs. 10 lakh: 20%
* Tax for income over Rs. 10 lakh: 30%

The limit for exemptions for salaried people is Rs. 2 lakh, while that for senior citizens is Rs. 2.5 lakh.

The new Code comes into effect from April, 2011.

After the approval of the Cabinet, the decks are cleared for tabling the legislation in the Monsoon Session of Parliament so that the new Act ushering in reduced tax rates and exemptions may come into effect from next fiscal.

When enacted, the Code will replace the archaic Income Tax Act and simplify the whole direct tax regime in the country.

The Code aims at reducing tax rates, but expanding the tax base by minimising exemptions.

The Finance Ministry had earlier come out with a draft on the (Direct Tax Code) DTC bill, some of whose provisions drew strong criticism from industry as well as the public.

To address those issues, the ministry brought out the revised draft, dropping earlier proposals of taxing provident funds on withdrawal and levying Minimum Alternate Tax on corporates based on their assets.

"As of now, it is proposed to provide the EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) method of taxation for Government Provident Fund (GPF), Public Provident Fund (PPF) and Recognised Provident Funds (RPF) ...", the revised DTC released by the Finance Ministry said.

The revised draft also puts pensions administered by the interim regulator PFRDA, including pension of government employees who were recruited since January 2004, under EEE treatment.

The first DTC draft had proposed to tax all savings schemes including provident funds at the time of withdrawal bringing them under the EET (Exempt-Exempt-Tax) mode.

Under the EEE mode, the tax exemption is enjoyed at all the three stages - investment, accumulation and withdrawal.

The earlier DTC draft had proposed to reduce the corporate tax to 25 per cent from the present 30 per cent. The revised proposal has also made it clear that tax incentives on housing loans will continue. Payment on interest on housing loans up to Rs. 1.5 lakh will continue. The earlier draft was silent on housing loans.

Silver Nitrate and Its Uses

Silver nitrate is a natural substance that has found various uses by man throughout history. While at first these uses were predominantly medical in nature, now there are a multitude of chemical, biological and industrial uses for silver nitrate. This most inexpensive of silver salts is transparent, colorless, and odorless, yet it finds its way into the production of photographic film! Silver nitrate is a real workhorse.

In chemistry, silver nitrate is used as a regeant. It can be used to test for the presence of chloride, bromide, or iodide ions. In biology it is employed as a silver stain to demonstrate proteins and nucleic acids. Silver nitrate is also used in scanning electron microscopy.

Manufacturing and industry have many uses for silver nitrate, too. It is economical and comes in a variety of solutions. As mentioned, it is used in film production. Silver nitrate is one of the bases of the photographic gel applied to strips of tri-acetae. Silver nitrate is also used in mirrors, inks, hair dyes, silver plating, and in silver based explosives. Commercial florists use it to extend the life of cut flowers. It truly is a versatile compound.

Silver nitrate is available in any form or quantity from Spectrum Chemical, one of the world’s most reliable names. Whether you need this compound in its pure form or in any sort of solution, the first place to look is Spectrum Chemical.

Dredged sand to expand Broadwater Parklands at two locations

Southport Broadwater Parklands is about to grow by more than four hectares.

The parklands will be widened in two separate locations in a reclamation program that will provide an additional new events space for the city and a unique mangrove habitat which will be a reminder of a bygone era.

Both areas are being created as part of the overall master plan for the parklands which was launched by Premier Anna Bligh in 2007.

Recycled sand from the dredging of two navigation channels in the Broadwater will be used to form the two new areas.

Dredging is expected to begin in early March and take nearly four months to pump approximately 100,000 cubic metres of sand from the Southern Channel, near the Seaway entrance, and South Wave Break Channel.

Mayor Ron Clarke said the reclaimed areas would add greatly to the attraction of the parklands and would complement the $36 million Stage One Broadwater Parklands project that was now rapidly taking shape.

He said Council was providing $1.2 million towards the dredging operation, with the balance of $300,000 coming from Queensland Transport.

“The amount of dredged sand to be deposited at the reclamation sites will be equivalent to filling the Titans’ football ground at Robina to a depth of more than 15 metres.

‘Following the reclamation process, we expect to spend several million dollars in landscaping the two new areas,” said Cr Clarke.

The first area - which will be near the existing southern children’s playground and swimming enclosure - will be planted with dune vegetation, lawn and shade-providing Casuarina trees, and will allow open access to the beach area.

Its large open lawn area will also give the Gold Coast an additional high quality space in which major events can take place.

The second area - north of the existing boat ramp - will be an environmental offsets zone that will have a section of existing seagrass transplanted from the first area. It will also include a 1.2 hectare fish and mangrove habitat, and visitor interpretation pathway.

A wetland that is presently being constructed in the central section of the Stage One parklands redevelopment, will treat 3.2 hectares of previously untreated urban runoff to assist general seagrass growth in the Broadwater.

Additionally, Griffith University will be assisting Council with fisheries research projects in the Broadwater.

Local area Councillor, Dawn Crichlow, said mangroves were once found in sections of the Nerang River and Broadwater estuarine areas but were gradually lost to urbanisation.

“It will be great for the community to have both of these new features. They can either explore them, or simply relax in beautiful surroundings.

“The addition of the reclaimed areas will enhance the Broadwater Parklands as a community asset,” said Cr Crichlow.

The dredging and reclamation works have been approved in accordance with the provisions of relevant State Government legislation. None of the work will be carried out in protected fish or bird habitats.

A GENIUS

The Ancient Near-Eastern period of our history marks a very large basic change in the way human culture has evolved. At the same time, growth of its people and cities had definite improvement on urban society, which has continued to prevail through the years as a major influence over our evolvement. The Artwork which was found from that period directly reflects that change and evolvement. But Better soil, water accessibility, and easier means of trade with other civilizations provided the fabric for this new change. The Pieces uncovered by archeologists such as wall relief, vases, coins, statues, and jewelry, really show a sophisticated society unlike any seen before its time. One can only imagine what type of people curled in ancient Mesopotamia, also known as the “Fertile Crescent”. Through out its villages and cities the Ancient Near Eastern people began to colonize and thus spark the first system of hierarchy. The Priests and kings held the rite to the land and the people worshiped it!

The Palaces in this time of government were adorned with great splendor. And also the grandiose statues and intricate wall reliefs gave them life. One piece in one of the particular shows Assyria’s vision of worship and hierarchy. This piece may really pulls its viewer in making them evaluate the difference between life then and life now, as should all ancient artifacts should. The Facial expressions are limited to his profile. This way of representation of the power and wisdom is very interesting considering the attributes given to the genius to achieve this knowledge and strength; Jewelry, a distinguishing beard, and hair; a large headdress with three protruding horns; Broad shoulders with wings attached. The Lost Mesopotamia: the mighty Kings. Towards his enemies, the King was heartless. He was portraying upon himself and his kingdom, artistic representation was viewed with great awe and power due to these over-exaggerated styles.

Web development

Web development is a broad term for any activities related to developing a web site for the World Wide Web or an intranet. This can include e-commerce business development, web design, web content development, client-side/server-side coding, and web server configuration. However, among web professionals, web development usually refers only to the non-design aspects of building web sites, e.g. writing markup and coding. Web development can range from developing the simplest static single page of plain text to the most complex web-based internet applications, electronic businesses, or social network services.

For larger businesses and organizations, web development teams can consist of hundreds of people. Smaller organizations may only require a single permanent or contracting webmaster, or secondary assignment to related job positions such as a graphic designer and/or Information systems technician. Web development may be a collaborative effort between departments rather than the domain of a designated department.

Cattle

Cattle, colloquially referred to as cows, are disciplined ungulates, a member of the subfamily Bovina of the family Bovidae. They are raised as livestock for meat dairy products (milk), leather and as draught animals. In some countries, such as India, they are honored in religious ceremonies and revered. It is expected that there are 1.4 billion head of cattle in the world today.

Cattle were originally known by Carolus Linnaeus as three separate species. These were Bos taurus, the European cattle, including similar types from Africa and Asia, Bos indicus, the zebu, and the extinct Bos primigenius, the aurochs. The aurochs is ancestral to together zebu and European cattle. More newly these three have increasingly been grouped as one species, sometimes using the names Bos primigenius taurus, Bos primigenius indicus and Bos primigenius. Complicating the matter is the capacity of cattle to interbreed with other closely related species. Hybrid individuals and even breeds exist, not only between European cattle and zebu but also with yaks, banteng, gaur, and bison, a cross-genera fusion. Cattle cannot effectively be bred with water buffalo or African buffalo.
